Current Responsibilities
Janelle MacLean leads the advancement of United Properties’ Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategies. She partners with business leaders to identify, measure, and strengthen ESG practices across the organization, while also addressing key risks and opportunities. Janelle works closely with executive and functional teams to shape and implement the company’s comprehensive ESG approach.
She chairs United Properties’ ESG Advisory Group and UNITED Together, while also overseeing six ESG-focused working groups.
Past Experience
Janelle joined United Properties in 2018 as a Senior Investment Analyst, bringing more than a decade of commercial real estate experience. In that role, she conducted detailed investment analyses and collaborated with asset management teams across both Operating and Development portfolios.
Earlier in her career, she served as an Asset Manager at CSM and Welltower, where she oversaw a $750 million medical office portfolio and directed strategic decisions in Joint Venture partnerships. She also has significant experience in property management and operations.
Professional and Community Involvement
Janelle is a strong advocate for expanding opportunities and representation in commercial real estate. She contributes her expertise through leadership roles with the Urban Land Institute (ULI) Minnesota Real Estate REDI Program (Steering Committee Chair), the Commercial Real Estate Collaborative Professionals’ Team (Co-Chair), and the Peace in Practice Development Committee. She also serves on the Board of ROHO Collective and is a member of the Real Estate Racial Justice Group.
In addition, she is a Market Leadership Advisory Board Member for the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) Minnesota, participates in the ULI Greenprint Community, serves on the ULI Minnesota Management Committee, and is an active member of ULI.
Education
Janelle holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities and a Master of Business Administration in Finance from the University of St. Thomas. She also earned the Real Property Administrator (RPA) designation from the Building Owners and Managers Institute.
