Matt Van Slooten is the president and portfolio chief investment officer of United Properties Investment (UPI).

Current Responsibilities
As president, Van Slooten oversees United Properties’ long-term ownership portfolio, and shares responsibility for leading and guiding the combined United Properties organization with Bill Katter, who also serves as president and development chief investment officer of United Properties Development (UPD). Their co-leadership extends to brand and culture building, policy setting, strategic planning, and effective human resource development. As chief investment officer for UPI, Van Slooten is responsible for all aspects of portfolio and asset management of the company’s stable portfolio which represents more than 7 million sq. ft. across several markets, including Minnesota, Colorado, Wisconsin and Florida.  Matt also leads the growth of the Amira portfolio, United Properties’ senior living business. Matt is a member of the United Properties Investment Committee and the Board of Governors.

Past Experience
Matt brings many years of outstanding and progressive commercial real estate investment experience to this important role. He spent 25 years with Carlson Real Estate Company, advancing through all critical company roles leading ultimately to president of the organization, a post he held for 13 years. Matt also served as the president of commercial properties for CSM Corporation for 4 years, overseeing a 10 million sq. ft. portfolio of industrial, office and retail properties.

Professional and Community Involvement
Matt is an active member of the National Association of Industrial and Office Parks (NAIOP) and a past Chapter President of NAIOP Minnesota. He is also a recipient of the NAIOP President’s Award (2009). He is an active member of the Young President’s Organization (YPO), and served on the Minnesota Chapter board as the membership chair. While at Carlson Companies, he was the recipient of the Carlson Fellow Award for Leadership Achievement, the company’s highest honor.

Matt earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from St. Cloud State University.
